ABOUT THE CONCERT
In this special spring concert, world-renowned Berkeley-based Meyer Sound kindly opens the doors to its usually private Pearson Theatre, a masterpiece of acoustic architecture. Guests of Salon Classique will have the rare opportunity to learn about the state-of-the art technology and sound system that illustrates the philosophy of sound pioneer John Meyer, his wife Helen, and their talented team. Audience members will experience first-hand different electronic sound settings in this unique, digitally advanced and beautiful multi-purpose hall.
The program presents two masterworks of the rare string quintet literature by the late Mozart and the early Mendelssohn. Both composers ingeniously combine lightness and seriousness, youthfulness and wisdom. With two violins, two violas and cello, chamber music approaches the dimension of a string symphony – a perfect vehicle for the Pearson Theatre's advanced sound system.
With this event Salon Classique says farewell to violinist Axel Strauss, who has accepted a position at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. The concert also features San Francisco Symphony violists Katie Kadarauch and David Kim, and cellist Angela Lee of The Lee Trio. They are joined by Karsten Windt, founding director of Salon Classique and former violinist of the Deutsche Symphony Berlin, who will provide lively and informative introductions to the music.
